*Capacity in Gallons—Proper determination of pool capacity is critical when it comes to the addition of pool chemicals. You have to know how much water your pool contains so that you can correctly calculate the proper amount of chemicals needed to treat the water. Following are some formulas:
Rectangle or Square Pools—Length x width x average depth x 7.5 = gallons. If your pool is L shaped, break it down into two pools and use the same formula.
Round and Oval Pools—Length x width x average depth x 5.9 = gallons.
Freeform Pools—Average length x average width x average depth x 7.5 = gallons.
To figure gallonage on freeform pools, sometimes it is easiest to divide the pool into smaller pools, and then add the figures together.
